When should NT scan be done?
The NT scan must be done when youre between 11 and 14 weeks pregnant, because this is when the base of your babys neck is still transparent. (The last day you can have it is the day you turn 13 weeks and 6 days pregnant.)
Is 13 weeks too late for NT scan?
Its too late to do the NT scan after 14 weeks, as any excess nuchal fluid may be absorbed by your babys developing body . Youll be offered a screening test in your second trimester if for any reason your scan doesnt happen before 14 weeks .
What should I do before NT scan?
To ensure clear images, you will be asked to attend with a full bladder. This is achieved by emptying your bladder 2 hours before your appointment and then immediately drinking 600ml of water. Do not empty your bladder again before the procedure. You may eat normally and take any necessary medication.
Does NT scan check heart?
Conclusions: A greater than 3.5 mm NT measurement in the first-trimester ultrasound is an indication to suspect a fetal heart defect but its sensitivity to detect severe CHD is poor. In our study, only 17.7% of severe CHDs would have been detected with an NT cutoff of 3.5 mm.
