Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPS) is a pattern of grandiose beliefs and arrogant behavior. A person suffering from Alcoholism can often exhibit coinciding behaviors. Alcoholism disease, defined by a persons inability to stop drinking alcohol as soon as they start–or the phenomenon of craving.
Narcissism may lead to alcoholism in some patients due to their grandiose view of themselves and denial of a negative outcome occurring. Alcohol abuse can cause people to develop narcissistic personality disorder as they become defensive about their substance use and whether they have an addiction.
What do narcissists and alcoholics have in common?
Those close to both narcissists and alcoholics experience deprivation, rejection, and feeling manipulated. In addition, over time, both narcissists and alcoholics sacrifice their well-being, reputation, relationships, and self-worth in pursuit of feeling superior or the highs from drinking.
Narcissism is a personality disorder with a cycle that is quite similar to addiction. At the outset of addiction, cravings are present, tolerance grows, and withdrawal occurs. They feel superior and are constantly seeking new and better triumphs that lead to greater glory.
