Over Easter, general retail shops (including those in the Perth and Fremantle tourism precincts) are not permitted to open on Good Friday (10 April) or Easter Monday (13 April). Easter Saturday (11 April) is a normal trading day.

The area in which Heirisson Island is currently located is an important area for Noongar people. A statue of Whadjuk Noongar warrior Yagan was erected on the island in 1984 to recognise Yagans strong leadership and resistance fighting during the early years of the Swan River Colony.
