You need to check your local building regulations about how close the outlet can be to any windows and doors or inlets that might allow outside air into the building. As a rule of thumb, it can be four feet below or to the side, or one foot above.
Can I vent a pellet stove horizontally?
While many pellet stoves can be vented with a short, horizontal vent directly out through an outside wall, most operate best with a minimum 4 rise before the flue vents horizontally through the wall. Pellet stoves are also available as fireplace inserts installed in masonry or factory-built metal fireplaces.
Can you vent a pellet stove out the side?
Pellet stoves can be vented vertically through the roof or horizontally through a side wall. Its always a good idea to get some vertical rise with the L-vent pipe, before venting horizontally through a side wall.
How many elbows can be in a pellet stove pipe?
Gas can use 45 or 90 degree elbows. Wood can not use anything bigger then a 30 and if an elbow is used with wood venting (stove or fireplace) you must use a second elbow to return the pipe. You can not link elbows directly together. Always put at least one elbow on the estimate, preferred two.
Do pellet stoves need fresh air intake?
Waste air from a pellet stove must be vented to the outside of a home using a suitable form of flue, either within a masonry chimney, internally within a home or externally up an outside wall. Pellet stoves do not typically always require a direct vent for fresh air intake.
How much clearance do you need around a pellet stove?
You must have 16 inches of clearance between the stoves top to combustible materials and 3 inches of space from the stoves vent. There should be no combustibles, such as doors or drapes, within 36 inches of the front or sides of the stove.
Can a hood vent pipe have an elbow?
Each elbow adds some resistance to your duct system, which makes it harder for air to make it to the outside. A couple of elbows are OK; you might need them just to navigate through your walls. But dont use more than two to keep your hood running as efficiently as possible.
